The International Medieval Bibliography (IMB) and Bibliography of Medieval Civilisation (BCM) provide records of over 602,000 publications (books, journal articles, and chapters in edited collections) relating to medieval history.

On the occasion of the 10th international conference of the Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East (SSCLE) the IMB and BCM are pleased to make available for free a list of recent publications on the crusades. The below list offers 527 recent books, articles and chapters that were published between 2018 and 2022. Our coverage of recently published titles is ongoing, and further records will be added in future updates of the Bibliography.

Records for journal articles may include a ‘Full text’ link:

This link will take you to the abstract of the article via the publisher’s website. If you have access to a library that subscribes to the journal, you’ll then be able to go straight to the full text (you may need to log on to your institutional library). Some books also have ‘Full text’ links: these connect to ebook or free Open Access versions of the work where they’ve been made available by the publisher.

The IMB and BCM do not only provide a good overview of relevant publications for the study on the crusades, but can also offer useful bibliometrical insights, such as an overview of the most active authors, journals, book series and publishers in the field of the crusades. This information can be interesting for early-career scholars in their search for a publication venue.
